This vocational program guide is intended to assist local administrators, regional coordinating councils, teachers, and others throughout Florida in offering vocational education training in fire fighting. The following topics are covered: program content and structure (occupational description, state certification requirements, certificate application and testing, certificate fees, curriculum framework, and student performance standards); facilities (Department of Education design criteria, state fire marshal criteria, equipment and supplies, audiovisual equipment, pertinent terms, equipment, intent of these standards, and safety); program implementation (student admission requirements, the instructional program, additional standards authorized, suggested instructional approach, suggested teaching methods, evaluation criteria, certificate of completion, student learning guides, cooperative training, and student organization participation); professional development (teacher certification, other qualifications, instructor standards, technical updating, and related professional organizations and support services); and instructional resources (print materials, audiovisual materials, computer courseware, and sources of instructional resource materials). A sample student learning guide is appended. The attached Career Merit Achievement Plan (Career MAP) is designed for use in recording the progress of students enrolled in a fire fighting training program. (MN)
