New Educational Technologies. XXVth Anniversary Workshop. Booklet No. 4 = Les nouvelles technologies de l'enseignement. Atelier du XXVe anniversaire. Cahier No. 4.
Caillods, Francoise, Ed.
This series deals with new educational technologies, distance teaching, and the use of computers in schools. The three contributions published in this volume examine the extent to which new technologies could provide solutions to the problems of the quality of education, the inadequate coverage of the conventional system, and its excessive cost. They also raise the question of the planning and administration of these new teaching methods. The two chapters by Xavier Greffe, written in French and briefly summarized in French and English, are "Le plan 'Informatique pour tous': un essai d'evaluation de l'experience francaise," which describes the systematic effort of the French government in 1985 to cover the educational system's needs in regard to computer science; and"L'enseignement a distance: problemes et perspectives," which traces the initial programs developed for vocational training needs in distance education that have since extended to other areas. "The Use of New Information Technology in Education: Evaluating the Experience of Japan and Other Asian Countries," by Haruo Nishinosono, provides statistics on the availability of media devices in education in Japan and data on the utilization of information technology in schools. Media specifically evaluated in this article are audiovisual devices, computers, and communication technologies in the elementary, middle, and senior high schools. (ALF)
