Status of Diversity in Colorado Public Higher Education, FY 1985-86 through FY 1990-91.
Colorado Commission on Higher Education, Denver.
This report summarizes data showing trends in ethnic minority diversity in Colorado public higher education for the years 1985-86 through 1990-91. Data are reported in narrative and tabular form by ethnic group for statewide student enrollment, undergraduate transfers, degrees and certificates awarded, full-time professional employment, and full-time versus part-time faculty employment. Students with unreported ethnicity (unknowns) and Non-Resident Aliens are reported as separate categories. Among the findings reported are the following: (1) statewide transition from high school to a public Colorado college or university has increased since 1986 from 36.8 percent to 44.0 percent; (2) in 1991, 14.7 percent of public headcount enrollment were ethnic minorities; (3) ethnic minorities were under-represented at nearly every degree level in 1991; (4) overall, faculty and staff full-time employment in Colorado public higher education in fiscal year 1991 was 16 percent minority; and (5) ethnic minority percentage of in-state transfer students increased from 9.9 percent in 1985 to 12.4 percent in 1991, well below the 1990 ethnic minority population percent of 19.3. Comparison data between national and Colorado diversity are also provided, as well as the fall headcount enrollment data by student level in Colorado's institution. (GLR)
