Custom Sewing, Modules One, Two, and Three. Instructor Guide.

This document consists of three modules designed for a custom apparel and garment sewing program teaching students to construct, alter, and prepare garments and home fashions to customer specifications. Each module includes some or all of the following components: performance objectives, lesson plans, suggested activities, information sheets, transparency masters, handouts, assignment sheets, job sheets, a unit test, and answers to the unit test. All units are competency based and cross-referenced to a competency profile at the beginning of the module. Module One covers the following units: (1) fabrics and textiles; (2) adjusting the home sewing machine; and (3) overlock machines. Module Two covers: (4) construction techniques; (5) applying fasteners; (6) applying trims and finishes; (7) windows and beds. Module Three covers: (8) measuring and fitting problems; (9) altering ready-made products; and (10) altering flat patterns. Two appendixes in each module consists of the following: (1) a list of resources including 22 books and curriculum guides, 7 sets of leaflets, 9 sources of videos and the titles available from each, 2 sources of computer software and the programs available from each, and 5 sewing publications; and (2) a glossary of 200 sewing terms.
