South Carolina State Library Annual Report 1991-1992.
South Carolina State Library, Columbia.
In fiscal year 1992, state funding to the South Carolina State Library was reduced on four occasions, but the library staff performed at high levels. Despite a 38 percent reduction in the library materials budget, the State Library had its best year ever in terms of providing information, with the number of items loaned continuing to increase. In addition, use of online databases increased by 45 percent. Libraries served by the State Library are also experiencing increased demands for services. The State Library has continued its effort to promote libraries and reading, with a major focus on services for children. This annual report for 1991-1992 summarizes the State Library's operations, accomplishments, and status for the fiscal year. Information is provided about the following parameters: (1) governance and mission statement; (2) history of the library; (3) organization and operations; (4) library services; (5) library collections; (6) library development; (7) the South Carolina Library Network; (8) public information services; (9) the Second White House Conference on Library and Information Services; (10) volunteer services; and (11) publications of the State Library. Two appendixes contain library directories and library statistics. One figure is an organization chart of library operations. (SLD)
