Project LEAP: Labor Education Achievement Program. A Health Care Adult Workplace Basic Skills Curriculum Resource Guide.
Metropolitan Baltimore Council of AFL-CIO Unions, MD.; Maryland State Dept. of Education, Baltimore.
Developed for the Labor Education Achievement Program (LEAP), this curriculum resource guide is designed to supplement instruction in the core skills needed by participants interested in training and advancing in various health care related positions. Definitions of key terms appear first. The guide includes four major sections. The first three focus mainly on the achievement of general knowledge that all employees in health care should know: basic skills development, general attitude development, and health care general knowledge survey. The fourth section highlights designated positions in the health care environment. The guide investigates six positions within the health care industry: nursing assistant, transportation aide, admissions clerk, geriatric aide, data entry clerk, and housekeeper. The following components are provided for each task: position (one of the six designated areas or all of them); task statement (duty or duties); performance conditions; instructional activities (those specific exercises leading toward successful achievement of any given task that can range from one to several exercises); related academic vocabulary; instructional resources; criterion reference; and performance guide. Fifty exercises are provided. Appendixes include a list of seven references and answer keys. (YLB)
