Catalogue of Projects in Electronic Text. User's Guide.
Cardullo, Pamela; Neuman, Michael
This guide to searching the Georgetown University Catalogue of Projects in Electronic Text database provides information on electronic text projects in the humanities throughout the world as well as a variety of information on the many collections of literary works, historical documents, and linguistic data that are available from commercial vendors and scholarly sources. It is noted that the electronic text projects documented in the database are machine-readable files of primary materials from humanities disciplines which generally take the form of either large corpora for linguistic analysis or major works of major authors for analysis of style and content; these files are intended by their developers to be searched and manipulated directly by humanists. The guide provides instructions for moving around the computer screen and keyboard, obtaining a free communications package that is available for use with the catalogue, and accessing the catalogue from remote sites. An explanation of the structure of the database and instructions for searching the PRODUCT and WORK subsystems for complete product entries or information about individual texts are also provided. Sample screens are included. (MAB)
