Chiang, Ching-hsin
This thesis reports on the designer's plans and experiences in carrying out the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a project, the purpose of which was to develop a training program that would enable foreign students at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) to use the Computer Output Microform Catalog (COMCAT) and to develop a sense of library research skills. The project was conducted using the principles and techniques of instructional system design (ISD). The report consists of seven chapters: (1) Introduction (overview, background, statement of the problem, project purpose, definition of terms, assumptions, limitations, method and procedures); (2) Analysis (needs analysis, instructional goal, literature review, plan for design and development effort); (3) Design (instructional task analysis, instructional objectives, entry behaviors defined, group and sequence objectives, learning activities specification, assessment system specification, evaluation system specification, learning transfer system specification, review and selection of existing materials);(4) Development (learning activity development scheme, learning activity development, learning activity review, materials for evaluation produced); (5) Implementation (materials for implementation reproduced, instructional delivery, data collection); (6) Evaluation (formative evaluation, summative evaluation learning transfer); and (7) Summary and Recommendations (methods and procedures used, conclusions, recommendations). Thirteen appendices contain copies of pretests and posttests, questionnaires, library guides, and supporting data for the study. (MAB)
