Guidelines for Occupational Therapy Practice in Educational Environments in the State of Delaware.

These guidelines are intended to direct the provision of quality occupational therapy services in educational environments in Delaware. The first section presents a discussion of definitions concerned with: (1) free appropriate public education; (2) related services; (3) occupational therapy services; (4) physical therapy services; and (5) relationship of occupational therapy and physical therapy (comparing the primary focus of each service). Specific guidelines are then presented for the following areas: referral, assessment (including screening, evaluation, and reevaluation); student-related planning (the Individualized Education Program and the Occupational Therapy Intervention Plan); intervention; transition services; discontinuation; documentation; and management. An appendix presents the standards of the American Occupational Therapy Association for occupational therapy services in schools. Includes five references. (DB)
