YALA Journal, 1989
This annual publication of the Young Adult Learning Academy (YALA) presents the art and writing of students in YALA. (YALA provides educational services to young people who have dropped out of school, are between 16 and 24 years of age, and read below the eighth-grade level.) This journal reflects the authors' and artists' perceptions of what it is like to be a young adult in New York City in the late 1980s. The poems, stories, and essays are about love, culture, and history. Thematic sections are entitled "Victories & Visions"; "Fire & Desire"; "We Shall Rise"; "Fantasies & Feelings"; "New Editions"; and "Blood Ties." Editors of the journal are also students. (YLB)
