Texas Educational Assessment of Minimum Skills. Student Performance Results 1989-1990. Statewide and Regional Results, Volume 1.
Texas Education Agency, Austin. Div. of Student Assessment.
This report presents Texas Educational Assessment of Minimum Skills (TEAMS) student performance results for the 1989-90 school year. Data are aggregated and reported for the state as a whole, for various student and district demographic groupings, for school districts, and for individual campuses. Section I provides an executive summary of performance results for all grades tested. Section II discusses the background of the assessment program and highlights information essential to a thorough understanding of these performance results. Sections III through VIII present a 5-year summary and a 1989-90 summary of performance results for the exit level (grade 11) and grades 9, 7, and 5 and English and Spanish versions for grade 3. Since the 1985-86 school year, the TEAMS program has measured student performance in the basic minimum skills of mathematics, reading, and writing. During the 1989-90 school year, the TEAMS program assessed more than 1,200,000 students in mathematics, reading, and writing in grades 3, 5, 7, and 9; and in mathematics and English language arts in grades 11 and 12. Comparative results across the 5 years indicate that mastery rates and scaled scores have improved in each subject area at each grade level tested. Thirty-two figures, 57 tables, and 24 bar graphs are included. Data on the number of instructional objectives, the grade 9 written composition explanation of analytical information, the TEAMS minimum passing scores, raw score to scaled score conversions, and categories on the District Demographic Report are appended, largely in the form of tables.
