Survey of 1990 Catonsville Community College Graduates.
Catonsville Community Coll., MD. Office of Institutional Research.
Every two years, community college graduates in Maryland are surveyed concerning their experiences in college and their subsequent educational and work activities. In spring 1990, all 765 1989-90 graduates of Catonsville Community College (CCC) were surveyed. Survey results, based on a 45% usable response rate, included the following: (1) survey respondents reported an average grade point average of 3.07, higher than that of the college's graduate population as a whole (2.97); (2) CCC enrolled a larger percentage of its graduates in transfer programs than comparable two-year institutions in the state; (3) 14% of the respondents were still enrolled at CCC in spring 1991; (4) the percentage of students indicating that they were preparing for transfer fell from over 41% on admissions application to 35% on the graduate survey; (5) the single most important reason given for attending a community college was to prepare for transfer to a four-year institution; (6) compared to the statewide student population, more CCC students were seeking certificates; (7) over 95% of the respondents indicated that they had achieved their most important goal at CCC, 96% indicated improvement in writing skills, and 86% indicated developing greater appreciation of the arts; (8) over 93% rated the quality of classroom instruction at CCC as "good" or "very good," while only 16% rated job placement services as well; and (9) CCC ranked slightly better than its peer institutions in overall quality. Data tables, tabulated survey responses, open-ended narrative responses, and the survey instrument are included. (PAA)
