Emotionally Impaired Secondary Curriculum.
Taulbee, Dianne R.; And Others
This curriculum guide presents principles for teaching emotionally impaired (EI) secondary students in the Jackson County Intermediate School District in Michigan. The first chapter examines management of programs for this population, developing and maintaining relationships, professional development, understanding emotional disturbance, classroom climate and process, and therapy/change systems. Entrance and exit criteria are then considered, including referral and eligibility for EI certification and requirements for EI classroom placements. Brief job descriptions for teacher, teacher assistant, teacher consultant, psychologist, and social worker are provided. The classroom environment is then considered, including safety, classroom climate and organization, room arrangement, limit setting and class rules, and group interaction. A chapter each is devoted to middle and high school program overviews and behavior management systems. Specific annual and short-term instructional objectives for students in EI programs are listed. Fourteen appendixes include program forms, criteria for social maladjustment, a mainstreaming checklist, a listing of instructional materials by subject, listings of high school courses and graduation requirements, the model used in programming for EI students, and publishers' addresses.
