1989-90 Graduate Follow-Up Report.
Wisconsin State Board of Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education, Madison.
In 1991, a graduate follow-up survey was conducted to gather data regarding student perceptions and activities following graduation from the Wisconsin Vocational, Technical and Adult Education System (VTAE). The primary objectives of the survey were to identify current activities of VTAE graduates, to determine the extent to which these activities were related to the graduates' educational programs, to provide information to assist others in career decisions, and to provide data to facilitate program planning, evaluation, and development. A total of 14,265 graduates from the VTAE's 16 districts were surveyed. Usable surveys were returned by 12,404 graduates for an 87% response rate. Study findings included the following: (1) 60% of respondents were female, and 39% were between the ages of 20 and 24; (2) 97% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with their training; (3) 93% of respondents who were interested in employment were working, and, of these, 84% indicated that their jobs were related to the training they had received; (4) 90% of employed graduates were working in Wisconsin, with 81% of this group employed in the VTAE district where they received their training; (5) health programs had the highest number of graduates (n=3121) and was ranked second in terms of the percent with employment related to training (92%); (6) the median monthly salary for all 1989-90 VTAE graduates was $1,229. Detailed data tables and the survey instrument are included. (JMC)
