This presentation reports the results of a statewide assessment of the technology needs of 529 Arkansas professionals working with persons having disabilities, in all age groups and across various disability categories. The assessment gathered information about the respondents' needs for information on assistive technology services and devices, training needs, perceptions of consumer purchasing needs, use of volunteers, agencies/mechanisms providing services, priorities for a state plan, and team participation. Examination of the survey data led to the conclusion that professionals favored a centralized service delivery model, as respondents rated the two highest priorities for state technology planning as early identification of persons with disabilities and provision of ongoing evaluation of needs. Implications of the survey are discussed in the context of innovative curricula for educating people about technology and services for persons with disabilities and their families. The consumer-driven process of curriculum development is described, and overviews are provided of curricula for parents, consumers, professional inservice, and college/university preservice education.
