This document presents modified and updated papers from a symposium held to examine alcohol and drug abuse prevention efforts worldwide. Wittman); (8) "Conducting Community Action Research" (Ann Pederson, Susan Roxburgh, and Laura Wood); and (9) "Lessons from Community Action Research Experiences and Suggestions for Future Prevention Projects" (Norman Giesbrecht, Peter Conley, Robert Denniston, Louis Gliksman, Harold Holder, Ann Pederson, Robin Room, and Martin Shain). The other 23 papers consist of brief and extended case studies on particular action research projects that were recently completed or, in some cases, are underway. Reports of four workshops, the symposium program, and a list of contacts are appended. (NB)
