Roanoke Area 2+2 Program in Automated Manufacturing Technology. Vocational Education Project Final Report.
Roanoke City Public Schools, VA.
The Roanoke Area 2+2 Project in Automated Manufacturing Technology was undertaken as a cooperative effort of area industries, government, and education to meet the needs of area industries. The program includes 2 years of technical training in high school combined with strong academic preparation and continues with 2 years of advanced technical training at the community college level. The curriculum was written by a curriculum team including representatives of all six participating school systems and Virginia Western Community College; industry representatives participated in Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) workshops to identify the duties and tasks necessary in the field of automated manufacturing. The project featured a strong public relations component because of the need to attract able students. The project was evaluated by Virginia Tech through survey forms, questionnaires, and rating sheets. Response to the project was positive and it has received several awards. The project is continuing student recruitment and expanding into other areas of automated manufacturing. (Following the first section, which is a short final report, most of this document is made up of project documents organized in six sections: project overview in the form of transparencies or handouts, DACUM/industry involvement; curriculum development, including tasks and competencies; public relations; awards and recognition; a 79-page evaluation; and five references.
