A Comprehensive Career Development Guidance Program for Texas Schools. An Implementation Handbook 1990-1991.
East Texas State Univ., Commerce. Educational Development and Training Center.
This handbook is designed to provide local school districts with a systematic approach to planning, developing, and implementing a comprehensive career development guidance program, based on the "National Career Development Guidelines" and locally identified student and community needs. Section 1 provides the program's philosophy, definitions, rationale, and benefits. A program model is described in terms of content, processes, and structure. Implementation strategies include a checklist for implementation readiness and steps in the implementation process. Five references are provided. Section 2 provides implementation guidelines. The process is divided into four steps: planning, development, implementation, and evaluation. A summary checklist follows the informative material on each step. Section 3 contains implementation resources in four appendixes. Appendix A provides lists of student competencies and indicators for four levels: elementary, middle/junior high, high school, and adult. Appendix B contains sample forms that can be adapted for use in the career guidance and counseling program. Some are incomplete and can be supplemented with local information. Appendix C presents supplemental information in such areas as work force development; workplace basics; counselor competencies; promotional activities; and career development activities. Appendix D offers lists of resources and resource organizations. (YLB)
