Socioeconomic data are presented for the Black population from the 1980 census for the United States as a whole, for regions, divisions, states, selected counties, and places. Data are shown for counties and places with 50,000 or more Blacks, places of 1,000 or more total population with a Black population of 50 percent or more, and all counties with a Black population. Tables of statistical data and textual analysis of the data comprise the body of the report. An appendix in which definitions and explanations of the concepts and categories used in the report is provided as well as an appendix that examines the accuracy of the data. This document will be of interest to educators because of the information it provides on the educational attainment levels of a significant segment of the population throughout the United States as well as for other demographic data of relevance to the teaching of sociology.
