Assessment of Students with Handicaps in Vocational Education: A Curriculum-Based Approach 1, 2. Trainer's Manual.
Albright, Leonard; Cobb, R. Brian
This training system consists of a trainer's manual and a series of seven training modules on the use of curriculum-based assessment procedures for students with handicaps in vocational education programs. The preservice or inservice training system is designed for individuals who are responsible for providing instruction and special services to persons with disabilities in regular vocational education settings. The trainer's manual uses a question-and-answer format to discuss organization and use of the training system. A reference section contains a variety of materials for trainer use in supplementing the content of the modules, including abstracts of each module; concepts and terms in educational assessment; module discussion questions; module assignments for inservice training; preservice course syllabus; and preservice assignments. A 51-item bibliography concludes this document. The modules focus on the various assessment stages and purposes that dictate the type of assessment activity to conduct, when it should be done, and by whom. Each module consists of some or all of these components: goals and competencies; introduction; strategies or procedures; summary; list of references; and example documents. Topics are: (1) establishing a curriculum-based vocational assessment (CBVA) process; (2) understanding CBVA--purposes and characteristics; (3) placing students in vocational education programs; (4) planning a student's vocational education program; (5) monitoring student progress; (6) planning transitional services; and (7) evaluating the CBVA process.
