This study presents the results of a 1989 study of computers in Texas schools. Data were gathered from 65 questionnaires concerning brands currently in use, percent of computer literacy among faculty, number of computer laboratories in the school district, use of computer networking in the laboratories, and brands of computers by grade level. It was found that: (1) the number of computers per district has increased in the past four years; (2) Apple computers were preferred at all grade levels in those school districts having a contract with Apple Computers; (3) there are eight computer laboratories per district on average; (4) less than 25% of the laboratories are networked; and (5) about half of the teachers are computer literate.
