The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of communication between Arizona's secondary schools and postsecondary institutions concerning computer education and computer literacy. A document analysis of college catalogs and a survey of 70 school districts determined the extent of advanced placement courses, computer education services, availability of hardware and software, and computer literacy course offerings (core or elective) available between and among Arizona secondary and postsecondary institutions. It is noted that communication between colleges and high schools could result in the development of new computer education curricula, including classes in programming languages, word processing, data processing, and other literacy courses, that would better prepare high school students for college as well as remove some of the pressure on colleges currently faced with overenrollment in introductory computer courses. Individual chapters report on the purpose of the study, research strategy, method, results, and recommendations. The cover letter, questionnaire, and a list of college course offerings are appended.
