New York State Education Dept., Albany. Office of the Professions.
Developed as a reference guide, this handbook contains the text of laws, rules and regulations of the State of New York Department of Education governing speech-language pathology and audiology practice in the state. An introductory section provides an overview of professional regulations in New York, describing aspects such as professional education, the role of state professional boards, access of minorities to the professions, professional licensing services, professional assistance programs, professional discipline, and state assistance for professionals abusing alcohol and other drugs. The second section contains licensure requirements and application instructions. The third section consists of checklists and application forms for speech-language pathology and audiology licensure applicants. Subsequent sections address various topics, including education law; commissioner's regulation for curricula and practice; rules of the Board of Regents pertaining to disciplinary proceedings in the professions; professional conduct and misconduct; the committee on the professions; and guidelines for evaluating applicant's experience. Listings of registered and accredited programs by both the New York State Education Department and the Educational Standards Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) are also included.
