This curriculum guide, written by experienced teachers of adults in Philadelphia, describes a full curriculum for intermediate-level adult literacy students (students who have basic reading skills). The curriculum is based on the assumption that adult students deserve a broad, well-rounded education. The guide also discusses teaching techniques and some teaching theory. The guide is organized in five sections. First comes a general discussion about teaching reading and writing skills. The second part of the guide describes books in six subject areas: grammar, literature, history, science, mathematics, and General Educational Development (GED).
