Coming and Going: Forty Years of the Fulbright Programme in New Zealand.
McDonald, Geraldine; And Others
The Fulbright Program in New Zealand funds educational and cultural exchanges with the United States. The program is jointly financed and managed by the two signatory governments. The program is the principal means of academic and technological scholarly exchanges between the two countries. Programs include travel grants to graduate students admitted into doctoral programs at American universities, exchange teachers, cultural grants, senior scholar grants, and educational and vocational development grants. The report illustrates the scope of the Fulbright Program in New Zealand and its impact, based on a survey of 662 New Zealand and United States participants involved between 1948 and 1988. The report contains information on the year the award was granted, category of the award, duration of the award, the recipient's sex, marital status, area of study, home and destination institutions, social contacts, sharing of ideas, publications, continuing contact with the host country, and expectations and their fulfillment. The report's appendixes contain data tables and a copy of the survey questionnaire. (Six references) (JDD)
