This collection of conference papers consists of a series of five case studies conducted in Denmark, France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. In Denmark, an exploration of computer conferencing in distance education included an examination of the pedagogical motives for using computer conferencing, the availability of computers in study centers, and future improvements in the conferencing system. The French case study focuses on computer studies in French secondary schools, and includes a brief chronological account of the production and distribution of software in schools, and the philosophy and objectives behind the "joint licence" procedure, i.e., the ability of educators to purchase software at affordable prices unavailable to the public. Projects in Italy, Spain, and Turkey had similar objectives: to highlight the relationship between the mass media and the school, including the sociological and cultural questions underlying the technology, teaching methods and education policies, historical backgrounds, support infrastructures, and software development strategies.
