Education and Training after the Compulsory Years: Buildings, Equipment and Links with Industry. Report of a Symposium Held in Espoo (Finland, May 14-17, 1990).
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris (France). Programme on Educational Building.
Trends in postcompulsory education are examined and strategies are suggested for effective provision of buildings and equipment in this summary of a symposium organized by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Programme on Educational Building and the Ministry of Education, Finland. Although participating countries' programs are diverse, they are subject to similar challenges, which include a changing economic structure, introduction and development of new industrial technology, changes in employers' expectations, changes in teaching and learning methods, and an increase in the number and diversity of students. The implications of these changes are examined in relation to providing for postcompulsory education and training, with a focus on planning, design, and management. Appendices provide discussions of the economic and demographic context, trends in postcompulsory education, and six case studies. One table is included. (15 references) (LMI)
