Minnesota Day Training and Habilitation Services: 1988 Survey Results. Policy Analysis Series, No. 29.
Minnesota Governor's Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, St. Paul.
A survey was conducted of 101 day training and habilitation services in Minnesota serving adults with developmental disabilities. The survey gathered information on age of clients, level of functioning, additional disabilities, place of residence, length of placement, vocational activities, integration, supervision, length of time at the same job site, and reasons for job termination. Twenty-six programs serving children in 1987 were also surveyed; only one program was still serving children in 1988, as the state had mandated that services be administered by local school districts. Financial results are analyzed in terms of revenues, expenditures, per diems, and licensed capacity. Results of the survey indicated that the number of adults served increased from 1986 to 1988. The number of persons with severe or profound levels of mental retardation continued to increase. The number of persons in vocational activities increased since 1986, especially for community-based vocational activities (CBVA). Persons working in center-based vocational activities showed decreased earnings from 1987 to 1988, while persons in CBVA showed marked growth in number of hours worked and wages earned. The percentage of persons in integrated settings increased to 48.1% from 43.1% in 1987. (JDD)
