Minnesota Developmental Achievement Centers: 1987 Survey Results. Policy Analysis Series, No. 28.
Minnesota Governor's Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, St. Paul.
This paper presents data collected from rehabilitation centers serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Minnesota, called Developmental Achievement Centers (DACs). The data focus on finances, programs, and clients, and are compared with data from previous years. All 97 providers of adult services in Minnesota completed the survey, covering client age, level of functioning, additional disabilities, place of residence, vocational activities, integration, supervision, type of community-based vocational activities, and length of time at same job site. Data collected from 26 children's programs address the areas of age, primary disability, number of children receiving various services, and children transferred from programs. Financial results are presented in terms of revenues, expenditures, per diems, and licensed capacity. Results show that the number of children's programs continues to decline with the shift of services to the public school system, while the number of adults served has increased. A decline was found in the number of persons who resided in intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded. Participation rate for vocational activities increased, as did hours worked and earnings. The percentage of persons in integrated settings declined from 1986 to 1987. (JDD)
