Section 4 lists 17 print references, 11 audiovisual materials, 21 information sheets that appear in the document, 115 pieces of suggested equipment, and 60 pieces of equipment that should constitute a tool kit for every two students. The 20 instructional units cover the following subjects: safety; tools; hardware; service documentation; boats, boat towing, and boat handling; gasoline engines; introduction to sterndrive systems; lubricants; electricity; painting; welding; outboard ignition systems; outboard fuel and oil systems; outboard powerhead electrical and starting systems; outboard powerhead; outboard midsection; gear cases; outboard controls; rigging; and job-seeking skills.
