Foreign Language Curriculum Guide.
North Dakota State Dept. of Public Instruction, Bismarck.
The purpose of this guide is to provide a resource for the development of modern and classical language curricula at the local level in North Dakota schools. The guide contains two sections, one dealing with modern languages, the other with Latin. Each section provides an overview of current philosophy, objectives, methods, and resources in foreign language education. General program goals are outlined, including a description of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages guidelines in the case of modern languages; competencies and course scope and sequence are specified for each language. The section on modern languages also describes three program types, including: FLES (foreign language in the elementary school), immersion, and FLEX (foreign language exploratory programs). Appended materials include lists of useful expressions in English with translations in French, German, Latin, and Spanish, and a list of additional resources. (MSE)
