Tomorrow's Learning Environment. Planning for Technology: The Basics. A Technology Leadership Network Special Report.
Hill, Franklin
In order for technology to fulfill its potential for substantially improving school productivity, it must be an integral part of school facilities planning. This report tells how technology-specific issues fit into the more general business of facilities planning and management. Topics covered include the following: (1) a questionnaire to help school districts create a status report on instructional technology and facilities planning; (2) an overview of technology in the media center; (3) an overview of accommodating specific instructional innovations in school spaces; (4) an outline of the planning process in the development of a Florida high school; (4) educational specifications for remodeling and new construction; (5) the use of program management firms; and (6) topics of concern to school board members such as state's responsibility, cost control, selecting a design professional, and passing a bond referendum. Appendixes contain the questionnaire format used to survey school board members; an article about science faculty master planning in Orlando Florida; comments from 12 reviewers of a draft of this publication; and an annotated bibliography of 44 citations in the ERIC database.
