Kentucky Teacher Internship Program (KTIP): Handbook for Teacher Interns and Teacher Internship Committees.
Kentucky State Dept. of Education, Frankfort.
The Kentucky Teacher Internship Program provides a comprehensive supervision, assistance, and assessment education program for beginning teachers. Its major objective is to establish a formal system whereby principals, resource teachers, and teacher educators assist, supervise, and assess the progress of new teachers. School personnel and teacher educators are trained in the use of a performance measurement system based on behaviors shown by research to have a direct relationship to improved pupil achievement. An intern who, in the judgment of the Teacher Intern Committee, has made expected professional progress and completed the educational requirements will have the provisional teaching certificate extended for the remainder of the usual duration period established for that particular certificate. An intern whose skills are judged to be below an acceptable level may continue the internship for a second year. This handbook outlines the responsibilities and expectations for both the teacher intern and the committee members (the principal, the resource teacher, and the teacher educator/instructional supervisor). Appendices include the sample forms used in the program. (JD)
