Improving Attendance of Kindergarten Students through Behavior Modification Techniques.
Schofield, Betty D.
A behavior modification program was implemented to improve attendance and punctuality patterns of kindergarten students attending a small, rural elementary school. Also incorporated into the intervention were self-esteem and parent involvement components. Motivational strategies used were: a token economy; group-oriented behavior management techniques; high-interest; small group activities; and verbal and nonverbal approval responses. Success was assessed by pre- and post-implementation comparison of attendance data. Results indicated that attendance patterns can be affected by teacher-parent cooperation. Related materials are appended. (Author/RH)
