This manual and curriculum guide describe the steps in the development of a workplace English program for hotel housekeepers, offers methods for needs assessment, outlines a curriculum, provides reproducible hands-on classroom activities designed to practice the concepts of the curriculum and to trigger teachers' imaginations, and offers general and specific resources. A series of lesson plans introduces a variety of pertinent topics and functions, including: giving and taking directions (hotel signs, hotel locations, room and floor numbers, using prepositions, giving and following commands); quest relations (greetings and responses, small talk, requesting permission, offering supplies, understanding requests); forms (simple forms, lost and found form, time sheets, pay stubs, work schedule); and reporting information (calling in sick, reporting repairs needed, preventing and reporting accidents). Each lesson includes objectives, procedures, and exercises, sometimes with variations. Visual aids are incorporated into the lessons, and a series of reproducible visuals is also appended.
