The Case of Oman: Primary Level. Evaluation of Curriculum.
Razik, Taher A.
This report assesses the 1987 primary school (grades 1 through 6) curriculum in the Sultanate of Oman. The evaluation examined the degree of congruence between the designers' intentions (as expressed in learning objectives and recommendations for implementation) and the conceptions of administrators in the country's nine school districts and ministry of education. The instrument, designed to rate the curriculum components, addresses learning objectives, classroom activities, assessment, staff, facilities and equipment, textbooks, teachers' manuals, and curriculum content. Five conceptual factors were taken from the opinion survey and used as independent variables, and eight demographic variables were employed. One-way analysis of variance tests were done, and the signficances were tested by the Scheffe pairwise comparison test to identify the significantly different subgroups. The responses of teachers and administrators reflected more conformity and uniformity than those of the supervisors, who showed more variability in their age, experience, and social and educational backgrounds. The report is presented in two sections. Part I, the evaluation, contains six chapters and four pages of references. Part II comprises two appendixes: Appendix A contains the questionnaires used in the study; Appendix B consists of tables of frequency and of percentages for teachers, supervisors, and administrators.
