As part of a project in the developing nations of the Asian Pacific region to promote the use and improvement of newly acquired literacy skills, exemplary reading-related materials for this population were gathered from a number of countries. A selection of posters, booklets, audio-visual materials, games, and other printed material are presented here. The subjects of the materials included range from health, nutrition, and daily living skills to farming and business. For each item included, the country of origin, title, description, appropriate audience, and source are noted. Appendixes contain additional materials from the Asian/Pacific Joint Production Programme of Materials for Neo-Literates in Rural Areas and its local versions, the winners of the Nessim Habif Prize Award of 1985, the winners of the first Asian Cultural Centre for Unesco prize for fully illustrated literacy follow-up materials, and a list of the organizations producing the items in the collection.
