An analysis of demographic and enrollment trends in the Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD) is provided for the district and each of its campuses. The report includes data on enrollment, weekly student contact hours (WSCH), student age, gender, ethnicity, unit load, and day/evening attendance, covering the 11-year period from fall 1978 through fall 1988. Implications of the data and trends for planning are discussed. Major findings highlighted in the report include the following: (1) district enrollments were 39,478 in 1978 and 46,218 in 1988, peaking in 1981 at 48,529 before declining to 39,575 in 1985; (2) WSCH peaked in 1981 along with enrollments and then declined until 1985, to a level 14% below that of 1978; (3) while enrollments recovered by 74% between 1985 and 1988, WSCH recovered only 42%; (4) students between the ages of 18 and 20 were the largest age group, representing 26.3% of the student body; (5) the 30- to 39-year-old age group was the second largest and by far the fastest growing; (5) women continued to be the majority of the district's students, comprising 58% of the student population in 1988; (6) the proportion of ethnic minorities in the student body remained relatively stable over the decade at about one-third; (7) as of fall 1985, Asians replaced Blacks as the largest minority group in the LRCCD; (8) the trend toward lighter course credit loads resulted in part-time students growing from two-thirds to more than three-fourths of all LRCCD students over the past 11 years; and (9) the proportions of day and evening students remained relatively stable at roughly 60:40 over the 11-year period. Population projections, and appendixes providing data for American River College, Cosumnes River College (CRC), CRC/Placerville Center, and Sacramento City College are presented. (JMC)
