A Study to Identify Areas of Relative Strength and Weakness in Support for the Saint Leo College Library Acquisitions Project.
McLeod, Stephen G.
The practicum sought to identify areas of relative strength and weakness in support for the Saint Leo College (Florida) Library Acquisitions Project, a project to improve library support to the Military Education Program administered by Saint Leo College on military installations throughout the Southeast. Using the Interactive Forces Theory of Organization Change, the practicum identified and rated interactive forces impacting on the project; produced indices for each discrete force, for each category of forces, and for the resultant of all forces at each developmental stage; and identified areas of relative strength and weakness. Key findings included: (1) the institutionalization stage was the stage of weakest support, and the refinement stage received strongest support; (2) for every stage, extrapersonal forces constituted the strongest force category, and goal hiatus forces were the weakest force category; and (3) for the institutionalization stage, the goal hiatus force associated with reaffirming accreditation was identified as the weakest goal hiatus force, and the force associated with improving instruction as the strongest goal hiatus force. Interactive strategies were recommended to ensure the success of the project, such as using the refinement stage to buttress support for the project in preparation for the institutionalization stage. Includes 31 references. (Author/JDD)
