Law Day U.S.A. offers an outstanding opportunity for developing public outreach programs to help solve law-related and other community problems through community partnerships. The theme of Law Day U.S.A. in 1990 was "Generations of Justice." This planning guide offers background information about Law Day U.S.A. and suggestions for planning a Law Day program. There is a special section for those working with a small budget. Information is provided on award competitions sponsored by the American Bar Association (ABA) in conjunction with Law Day U.S.A. and suggestions are offered on locally sponsored award programs. The names and addresses for various ABA resources are provided and an order form is included for ABA materials related to Law Day U.S.A. that are described in the manual. Brief descriptions are given of some of the past winners of the ABA Law Day U.S.A. Public Service Award competition. The last portion of the document contains descriptions of model programs that represent a selection of various Law Day/Law Week activities throughout the country. They were chosen for their variety, innovation, and popularity, and feature bar associations and other organizations of various sizes and budgets. (JB)
