Working in the Future. The Thinkahead Project Forum #3 (San Francisco, California, September 21, 1989). FIERI Forum Transcripts.
Whitman Inst., San Francisco, CA.
This document contains an edited transcript of a forum held as part of a research project called Thinkahead, which was designed to serve as a catalyst for developing educational models that will prepare people to think more critically and creatively in the world of the future. The forum participants, all business people concerned about the ways in which the educational system prepares young people for the world of work, were invited to share their experiences and recommendations. The three questions around which the discussion ranged were (1) What will be the basis of the future economy and how will it affect the workplace?; (2) Which thinking skills, interpersonal skills, and strategies will be necessary to create the world of the future?; and (3) How should young people be prepared for the envisioned future? The participants were Martin Covington, Institute of Personality Assessment and Research at the University of California at Berkeley; Caroline Boitano, BankAmerica Foundation and Bank of America-Giannini Foundation; Kit Durgin, Women's Foundation; Fernando Flores, Logonet, Inc.; Brenda McChesney, Pacific Bell; Cornell Maier, Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation; Saul Rockman, Apple Computer; and David Stern, University of California at Berkeley.
