Eight tables present statistical data on the originating residence of students entering New York State institutions of higher education in the Fall of 1986. The first table organizes the number of students by locale (New York, all other states, U.S. territories, and foreign countries). The second table organizes the data by sector (number of students enrolled in State University of New York, City University of New York, independent, or proprietary institutions). Tables 3 and 4 provide data for all first-time students enrolled in New York colleges and universities, broken down by home state. Subsequent tables present data concerning the home states of first-time students enrolled specifically in State University of New York institutions, City University of New York institutions, independent institutions, and proprietary institutions.
