The purpose of this curriculum guide is to define a portion of the common core of knowledge and skills that middle school students should know or be able to do to promote health and well-being. It identifies an appropriate score and sequence, and offers suggestions for teaching and learning. It is also intended as a tool for coordinating and focusing the diverse components that comprise the health instruction program of the school district. The guide contains a statement of philosophy and broad goals for each content area. Objectives, organized around these goals, define more specific expectations for students in kindergarten through grade 12. These objectives, then, are translated into a scope and sequence which provides the basis for lesson planning. The focus of the guide on on grade 6.
