Few educational issues have caused as much concern as those relating to teacher supply and demand especially as it relates to the recruitment of black teachers. Suggestions are made for reversing the trend of declining minority involvement in teaching, focusing on the role of the state and state universities. It is emphasized that minority student recruitment into teaching should start long before graduation from high school. It is noted that the real solution may not be reallocation of able minority students but redevelopment of strategies to increase the potential pool of students who complete college.
