These four journals contain articles on topics of current concern to community college trustees. The spring 1989 issue contains articles on the trustee role in assessing institutional effectiveness, the effect of workforce trends on community colleges, the art of passing a bond issue, the expansion of consumer programs in community colleges, the improvement of high school/community college articulation, three areas of policy to better manage risks for governing board members, and a redefinition of the "community to be served" by community colleges. Articles in the summer 1989 issue focus on board member ethics, substance abuse prevention, campus safety, community college legislation, the impact of faculty retirement, and the value of diversity in leadership. The fall 1989 issue covers students and community service, the retention of excellent presidents, quality in teaching, programs for prison inmates, the role of the community college in 21st century education efforts, and a response to America's growing demographic divisions. The winter 1990 issue presents articles on standing committees, the board's role in planning and institutional effectiveness, innovative fund raising, campus trends in 1989, a plan to increase the number of minority faculty in Illinois community colleges, a core curriculum for college students, and a description of the teacher as a leader.
