Rural Transition Teacher Preparation Project. Final Report, 1986-1989.
Link, Donald P.
This document is the final report of the 3-year Rural Transition Teacher Preparation Project in Utah which made it possible for the Special Education Department of the University of Utah to offer rural special educators field-based coursework in the area of secondary transition services for mildly and moderately handicapped students. Project objectives included model development, training of clinical instructors, technical support of clinical instructors, field testing in two rural regions, replication in two additional rural regions, and perpetuation through dissemination of permanent products. The Project used a model of providing specialized training to selected rural special educators and utilized them as field-based clinical instructors to deliver a sequence of four courses aimed at junior and senior high special education teachers. Topics covered in the courses included curriculum design, instructional methodology, program management, transition planning, community-based instruction, coordination with vocational education, and use of adult service agencies. The bulk of the document consists of appendixes including the course syllabi, the Salt Lake City School District's Master Plan for Transition Services, and a reference to an instructional videotape prepared as part of the Project's perpetuation component. 21 references.
