Maximizing Resources Workbook.
Seltzer, Michael; And Others
This workbook was developed to assist adult educators in creating a fundraising plan, identifying funding sources, and developing techniques to receive funding from a variety of sources. Its materials are taken from a 2-day workshop given for persons involved in fundraising for nonprofit groups, especially adult education groups. The workbook is organized in three sections. The first section focuses on the world of money, including philanthropy, sources of funding, and what induces people to be generous. The second section, which makes up most of the guide, outlines 10 phases of a fundraising plan. These phases include (1) taking stock of strengths and weaknesses; (2) choosing funding partners; (3) setting fundraising goals; (4) developing a strategy to secure support from individuals; (5) developing a strategy to secure support from institutions; (6) making the case; (7) preparing the final fundraising plan; (8) making the approach; (9) building the relationship with supporters; and (10) monitoring and evaluating fundraising efforts. The final section emphasizes selling the program. The workbook provides worksheets, examples, and transparency masters. (KC)
