Child Care Curriculum Development. Bulletin 1775.
Louisiana Tech Univ., Ruston. Coll. of Home Economics.
This guide provides training units for high school home economics teachers to use with students interested in developing a child caregiver's knowledge and skills. Participation in a one-semester course based on the state's Child Development Curriculum Guide and another course based on this guide is expected to provide excellent preparation for the position of caregiver in a day care setting. In this guide, a rationale and content outline are followed by contents focusing on the planning of learning activities, appropriate experiences for the young child, enhancement of social and emotional development, guidance, parental involvement, routines used in child care centers, the planning of the environment, training techniques for use with caregivers, child care program evaluation, and the child care professional. The format of individual units in the guide follows that of the state's Child Development Curriculum Guide. Each lesson begins with basic ideas concerning the topic of discussion. Performance objectives focus on the kind of behavior the student is expected to display as a result of the learning experiences. An outline summarizes information covered in each unit's review of literature. Learning activities, instructional aids, and evaluative exercises are included in each unit. (RH)
