Restructuring in Italian: An LFG Analysis.
Anderson, Peggy M.
Analysis of two Restructuring constructions in Italian, "equi" and "raising" structures, suggests that while lexical functional grammar (LFG) does not offer the kind of analysis previously used on this kind of structure, it does offer an insightful and interesting analysis of Restructuring in Italian. This approach treats Restructuring sentences as monoclausal at all levels, in both functional and constituent structure. Evidence is drawn from several relation-changing rules and from movement and deletion rules. In the analysis proposed, the grammatical relations for the sentence as a whole come from the rightmost verb, which is the clause nucleus, and the intermediate verbs are actually auxiliaries without the argument-taking properties of verbs.
