National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems Annual Statistical Report, 1986 [and] 1987.
National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems, Washington, DC.
The 1986 annual statistical report provides data from 46 states and territories on protection and advocacy for persons with developmental disabilities and on client assistance programs. The 1987 report, compiling data from 55 states and territories, provides, in addition, data on protection and advocacy for persons with mental illness. The reports begin with a brief outline of the purpose, goals, and administering agency for these programs. In the program area of protection and advocacy for persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness, categories of summarized data include: (1) number of clients served; (2) demographic data of clients served; (3) client impairments; (4) client living arrangements; and (4) case problem areas. For individuals with developmental disabilities, information is also provided on clients' substantial functional limitations. Concerning the client assistance programs, information on client case loads is summarized by demographics, client impairment, and case problems. A narrative summary contains anecdotal examples of client assistance, protection, and advocacy activities. A chart reflects appropriated levels of federal funding for these programs. The reports conclude with a list of state offices for protection and advocacy and for client assistance programs. (JDD)
